The RSPB required a web application through which they could provide learning material to people interested in birds and birdwatching. Once a user has logged-in they are presented with 6 different modules as well as access to the resource library which contains the RPSB Handbook of British Birds and Where to Watch Birds – Britain.
Within each of the modules are learning topics which contain Flash-based interactions as well as an end-of-module quiz. The whole application is SCORM compliant so that the user can see how far they have progressed through the course as well as the modules that they haven’t yet started. As the course duration is over fourteen months, the two month overlap allows for the users to recap the material they covered when they first started the course.
It was important that the web application maintained the strong brand identity of the RSPB to establish the reliability and trustworthiness of the learning content. It was also key that the interface was friendly, engaging and interesting whilst appealing to a broad demographic. I worked closely with the Usability Design Manager in applying the interface design to the web application to ensure it was suitable.
