New design for 2009

To see in the New Year I whipped up the design you see now in front of you (or at http://www.scottmallinson.com for the feed readers). I wanted to show off more of my portfolio work and the previous design just didn’t allow for it.

I have also re-included features I removed from earlier designs. The weblog now shows the most popular articles as well as the most recent comments.

There are still some rough edges that need smoothing, but in the mean time I’d love to hear what you think.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

I think i’m a little undecided. It may take a while for the changes to sink in.

After sitting here for a few minutes (and looking at a cached version of the previous design) I think my issue is that there were elements of the previous that I liked that have had to make way for the sites new focus and functionality.

I think the blog section does get a little lost on the home page but the site is a good progression from the previous, keeping a consistant style which is always preferable if possible. Good work yet again :)

Yeah, i like the clearly represented portfolio site, it’s much easier to get an impression of your work! I think the background can be a little bit lighter and the link color in the content isn’t my favourite. The previous design although was simpler, but the design must be measured on the content (as is well known) and not conversely.

So i like the redesign (once) again. :)

Wish you MC too! Have a nice holiday and a good successful start into the next year!

Scott,

I quite like it, I like the clear focus of the recent work and the use of colour to highlight it on the page.

I also, really like the layout for blog posts but find the contrast of the text on the background a little tricky to read in places.

I’ll agree that the blog posts are a little lost on the homepage, and I think a lot of people enjoy reading them, so it’s a bit of shame they’re tucked away. But if the focus is on “portfolio” then I think you’ve got it right.

The other thing that caught me a bit was the lack of colour on the portfolio thumbnails when you rollover them — on first viewing I thought my monitor was on the blink.

Have a great Christmas!

Dave.

Hi Scott,
It’s very clean and uncluttered and the portfolio page really stands out well with the grey/blue background.

Seems to do what it needs to me!

Cheers

Graham
