scottmallinson.com now mobile friendly

You may recall me asking you what was in your pocket a couple of days ago so when developing a mobile friendly version of this website I would know which are the most popular mobile devices, and what to test the website on.

Well you may have noticed that in the linked article Justin Baker from Mippin left a comment suggesting I try out their service. Well I have and I am impressed. Though the service doesn’t produce a fully mobile equivalent of this website; it reproduces the feed in a mobile friendly way, I was considering dropping all the other webpages except from the weblog anyway. What good would it be viewing my portfolio work on a tiny mobile screen?

The whole process to mobilize your website is really simple. I downloaded the the Mobilize by Mippin Wordpress plugin, simply activated it and then set about claiming and customising my website on Mippin.

You simply have to enter in your web address that you want to mobilize (it will try and guess the feed URL from the address you enter). Ensure this is correct and select the layout type you want your website to render as (there is a handy preview of what your website will look like).

The next step allows you to customise how your website is rendered. In keeping with Pink for October I added in the values of the current colour scheme and uploaded the favicon. Again the preview allows you to see before committing what your website will render like.

The next step asks you to confirm ownership of the content and copyright for the website, and asks you to create an account with Mippin if you haven’t done so already. The final step allows you to add advertising into your website.

I am opposed to advertising on mobile devices at the moment. I don’t agree with consuming the visitors data allowance with often irrelevant adverts just to make money.

So without further a-do, go to http://www.scottmallinson.com on your mobile device and let me know how it looks.

hi, just found ur mobile site on mippin.
I love the pink, makes it stand out a lot.
One hint, your feed going into mippin only includes a summary of the story and not the full article. I had to leave the mobile version to read the whole posts.
Keep it coming,
added your blog to my favs.
