New website redesign

Welcome to the redesigned ScottMallinson.com. I figured that it was about time that I gave the website a new skin and I decided to incorporate into the design what I know about grid-based layouts.

If you were familiar with the old style, you will be aware that I tried to adhere to a 3-column grid layout however I found that the results ended up being too similar to Khoi Vinh’s Subtraction. So I took a fresh approach and by using the 960 Grid System I arrived at what you see in front of you now.

I didn’t use any of the HTML/CSS framework elements from the system, simply just the PNG Fireworks template as it allowed me to easily prototype how the website could look without the need to code any of it. Whilst I have kept to a 3-column layout in this redesign, I have played around with the column dimensions throughout the website, hopefully subtle enough to not cause visual tension.

With the redesign I also wanted to place more emphasis on my portfolio which is why you will see an example of my latest work on most of the pages. I am in the process of rewriting the content for my portfolio projects to fit the redesign better and you will be sure to see new examples appearing shortly.
