High Contrast mode in Windows XP
An interesting problem arose in the office yesterday. For some unknown reason background images in webpages were not appearing on one computer. The eventual cause of the problem was that the computer was running Windows XP in High Contrast mode, though it didn’t seem apparent from looking at it.
Apparently whislt in High Contrast mode, Windows XP doesn’t adhere to font colour, background image and background colour style declarations in webpages. This causes a problem when background images are used to convey meaning or information, such as icons, logos etc.
Although this is bad practise, you can still see that it is done from the screenshots below.
