Man, that takes me back!

The effect of CSS galleries on website traffic

It has now been about a week, 7 days since this website got picked up by CSS Mania among other CSS galleries and I thought I’d share with you what affect getting listed on CSS galleries had on my website traffic, feed subscribers and bandwidth used.

What’s in your pocket?

To jump on the trend of the growing number of websites that are creating mobile-friendly versions of their content, I aim to do the same in the not so distant future. Looking at the stats gathered from Google Analytics, I can see that the largest number of mobile device visitors use the iPhone to visit this website.

Google PageRank, nofollow and the web

Following the Make Your Business Buzz seminar I attended earlier this week, one of the factors that was raised is the importance of Google PageRank. It was claimed that Google currently dominates the search engine market with an 80% share in the lucrative market, therefore ensuring your website is placed well in Google is more important that it ranking highly in MSN, Yahoo! or any other search engine.

Make your business buzz

Earlier today I attended Make your business buzz, an SEO and website marketing event hosted by MBL Solutions in partnership with Business Link held at Middlesbrough’s modern MIMA. I went on behalf of MyKnowledgeMap as a means of better understanding SEO and website marketing, and learn how to better market MyKnowledgeMap’s network of websites.

Thoughts on the T-Mobile G1

The launch of the eagerly anticipated T-Mobile G1 occured yesterday, and I thought that I would offer my thoughts and feelings on the ‘revolutionary’ device now that the marketing hype has died down some 24 hours later.

How do you use Twitter?

Twitter is a great web application. It’s simply a communication tool, but due to it’s flexibility it can be used in so many different ways; from keeping in touch with friends, tracking industry peers or for use as a marketing tool.

Minimal sites

Minimal sites is a great CSS gallery that I have come across recently and is a fresh source of inspiration from the cluttered, often fussy examples found on other gallery websites. Though the CSS gallery concept is getting a little old, I have no problem with it myself.

CSS Gallery love

CSS galleries can be a great source of inspiration through creative dry spells, and following my recent redesign I thought I would put myself forward for inclusion.

Death to IE6

The anti-IE6 squad seems to have been gathering some momentum lately; 37Signals announced that they are phasing out support of the aged web browser, as well as Facebook and MobileMe. Even a website has been constructed, IE Death March, to revolt against the web browser and highlight websites that no longer support it.

Ryan Carson and the Carsonified events

“I want the world, I want the whole world, I want to lock it all up in my pocket, It’s my bar of chocolate, Give it to me, Now!” sang Veruca Salt famously in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Well Ryan Carson, Carsonified’s very own Willy Wonka, is giving you the chance to travel around the world, meet amazing speakers and attend fun conferences.

Get Satisfaction

A few weeks ago I signed up to try out Olive, a web application from You Know Who. I had jumped on the hype bandwagon after following Sarah Parmenter’s tweets, and decided to take the new web application for a bit of a test drive. Whilst I had no immediate use for the web application as any client contact through my employer is done via Basecamp, and current freelance work is done face-to-face, I knew a couple of people who would be interested in such a thing.

Google Chrome; not another browser?!

If you haven’t already heard of Google Chrome then you must have had your head buried in the sand. Available to download on the 2nd September 2008, it was a bungled release caused by mis-communication within the Google camp. It didn’t matter much though as there was a rapid uptake of the new web browser and the immediate response from the early adopters was amazement at the speed of the thing.
