Creative Industries Observatory

The Creative Industries Observatory (CIO) is an academic research group, initially set up in conjunction with ‘Creative Capital World City’ (CCWC) – a HEIF-funded project aimed at supporting the creative industries in key world markets, including the UK, India and China.

The CIO required a website which could be maintained by themselves to promote their research and hold information regarding the project. A detached news section was also needed to suppliment the core website, which would be used to broadcast topics relevant to the creative industries in the key world markets.

It was key that the core website could be content managed by the CIO research group members, and also that they could add news stories to the detached news section. For this MyKnowledgeMap’s EMPOWER system was used as it contains a content management system (CMS) among other features.

The core website was designed around the branding of the London College of Communication, whilst the news section was designed to be completely removed from the core website due to its different purpose and audience. I worked closely with MyKnowledgeMap’s Usability Design Manager to produce the interface designs, and was solely responsible for the CSS construction for the core website.
