The RSPB required a web application through which they could provide learning material to people interested in birds and birdwatching. Once a user has logged-in they are presented with 6 different modules as well as access to the resource library which contains the RPSB Handbook of British Birds and Where to Watch Birds - Britain.
A new feature that has been rolled out to all Flickr accounts is the ability to edit photos online. Through a service provided by picnik you are able to edit any of your photos using picnik’s Flash interface.
The interface allows you to perform quite advanced photo editing techniques on your photos such as, altering the exposure and contrast, sharpening your photos, changing colour temperature and saturation and curing red-eye. Basic photo editing features such as crop, resize and rotate are also available.
However the feature that I am particularly impressed by is the auto-fix capability. For those who don’t want to spend hours or have the skills to manually edit photos, with one click you are able to perform most of the editing techniques to your photo to create what the software perceives as an accurate representation of the real thing. As well as providing an overall auto-fix feature, there are also auto-fix exposure and auto-fix colour features.
Whilst I doubt that I will use this editing functionality myself, I can see it being used by those who quickly want to fix problems with their photos and also by the non-tech savvy photographers who aren’t familiar with Photoshop or the like.
