Facebook, my new best friend
Up until today I didn’t have a Facebook account. I didn’t really have a reason for not having a Facebook account other than that my experiences of MySpace weren’t favourable. After being bombarded with comment spam, bad profile customisations and awkward navigation I cancelled my MySpace account, one less friend for Tom but I don’t think he noticed.
Within minutes of setting up my Facebook account I was adding friends, apps and finding my way around this new found world. It took me a little while to work out, but eventually I found out how to search for people. This facility blows MySpace out of the water. Something as simple as searching for a user just isn’t easy to do within MySpace. I must admit that Facebook does fall foul to when multiple people share the same name and neither have uploaded a photo of themselves or they are indistinguishable. However you are able to filter the results by searching against further criteria (providing they have been entered by the person you are searching for).
Providing Facebook’s creator, Mark Zuckerberg court case does not impact upon the social networking site, the whole Facebook concept looks to be in for the long haul. Creating the Facebook Platform allows third-party developers gain access to the large user-base. This also takes away the requirement for Facebook to develop all the functionality, instead as all already happened, users pester the third-parties like Last.fm to develop apps for Facebook.
I was sceptical at first when friends said to me that Facebook is addictive. I am wrong and could easily find myself spending hours at a time using the app.

You can’t keep Facebook out of the news at the moment…
I got caught up in the latest ’security breach’ - a bug that affected the site on Tues:

And today there’s some hoohar over advertising and the BNP:

Still, it’s all reported in the Metro so take it with a pinch of salt.
