We need you! The demand for more web developers

It’s an interesting, exciting but equally challenging time being a professional in the web industry. With new technologies emerging every six months it is getting harder to keep abreast of all the developments to ensure you’re skills aren’t outdated.

There was once a time where you would decide between PHP and ASP which would in turn affect your career path. Now there are more than a dozen various programming languages each of which have been adopted in varying degrees across the industry and are better suited to certain scenarios than others.

We are in the wake of the Web 2.0 wave and the surf is up. Techcrunch writes of transactions of thousands, even millions for web companies that are nothing more than a year old and are often programmed by university students.

Due to the success of social networking sites such as Youtube, MySpace and Facebook there has been an increase in demand for web developers because companies have seen that there is once again money in the internet, similar to the dotcom boom of the 90s, and try to replicate their success.

Pay for web developers has jumped 26% over the past 12 months, and they are among the most sought after IT professionals in the UK. The average hourly rate for web developers is £29, up from £23 this time last year, according to its research with jobs site SkillsMarket.

So the question is now, do I develop my skills in Ruby, Flex, XUL, ASP.NET, PHP, Javascript…?
