RSPB LearnBirds

The RSPB required a web application through which they could provide learning material to people interested in birds and birdwatching. Once a user has logged-in they are presented with 6 different modules as well as access to the resource library which contains the RPSB Handbook of British Birds and Where to Watch Birds - Britain.

Windows Vista and my BT Voyager 105 USB Modem

For an update to my Windows Vista and BT Voyager 105 USB Modem problem, please read Windows Vista…again.

After hearing about the hype surrounding Windows Vista I decided to take the plunge and give it a go. To ensure that I could use Vista without a hitch I did as Microsoft advise and downloaded the Vista Upgrade Advisor to see if both my hardware and software would be supported by the new OS.

There was one software problem detected with Alcohol 120% but all my other software programs and hardware weren’t known to cause any problems.

So I proceeded with installing Windows Vista Business (as a member of the MSDN Academic Alliance through the University of Teesside I was able to obtain a fully licenced copy). I didn’t take note of how long it took to install Vista, but it didn’t seem to take very long; a similar duration to installing XP.

And so I had Windows Vista sitting pretty on my pc. After taking in the scenery (the Vista interface is pretty!) I needed to get connected (my dependence on the internet is getting greater) and so I promptly inserted the BT Voyager 105 USB Modem CD into my pc and followed the wizard to install the drivers…….

….

….

“There was a problem installing your hardware” returned to me by Vista. Hmmm, ok, I’ll give it another go. The same result. It seems that the Voyager modem drivers aren’t supported by Vista, problem! I have tried Googling numerous times for solutions but to no avail as they all have problems with the Beta releases and not a final release, like mine. I have queried BT via their Voyager website and await a reply, so for now, back to XP.
